Great stuff, read it all, one thing about the "How did Jim Morrison write the songs with no training" etc.
As a muso I will say it is normal to just do stuff in the beginning like just sit down and start playing the drums (Ginger Baker began thusly) or singing, some of us humans are pretty fucking talented as it happens. Also Doors guitarist Robbie Krieger wrote those early songs with him. Light my Fire, the music was Robbie. Jim was the Poet.

I think maybe people could benefit by another understanding as to the reason the musicians didn't have to know how to play an instrument.

At the time and place of the period under scrutiny, there is an underlying force informing the collection of events. That force draws to it the articles it needs to express itself. A confluence of energies which by some divine selection coalesced itself in the canyon area, begging to inform the population of the truth the public eagerly awaited. A conversation between two massive superluminal energies. That is the rock LSD CIA mind control Laurel canyon hippy scene.

It was already within everyone, and they find their unconscious energy expressed through this place. It is a material reflection. The participants are all actors summoned by forces greater than themselves.

There is a paranormal element to it, just as there is a paranormal element to life. Only here, it is obvious, beautifully at play in full view, at least to the author of this series.

as a classically trained and marginally successful composer of real concert hall music (chamber, symphonic, mixed media, avant-garde), and a published poet, I can add that writing poetry and setting that poetry to music call for far different skills - now the notion that penning poems, then getting a talented musician to set them to music is plausible - very likely the same studio team that produced THE DOORS albums are responsible - my guess is that they were paid very well up front for both their work and their silence - whatever they were paid was quickly recouped through record sales and broadcast royalties - I'm very curious to know if any of the behind-the-scenes talent have ever broken silence

such an amazing psyop - who's the musical talent behind it ? I'm nurturing a theory: perhaps the most musically talented and prolific figure mentioned, would certainly be capable of authoring the lyrics, the music and directing the production of any of these stage-prop bands, and could do it in his sleep - his own productions were virtually all satirical send ups, except for certain instrumental passages, that stand out as some of the most sophisticated rock-jazz of the era - he was also classically trained and well-versed in the most esoteric avant-garde classical music of the 20th C. - having read through 11 parts, I'm growing increasingly impatient for McGowan's deep dive on Frank Zappa

I always thought the same thing about Hillman. Should have had no problem playing bass. Also, some of the Doors members did have musical backgrounds. Ray played in a band before the Doors. I think with his brother called, Rick and The Ravens. And Robby was a trained guitar player.

Sorry for taking so much space. This is important to get across. Jim Morrison didn't need to be musical at all write lyrics. I am not the least musical. Here's my alternate lyrics for the Eagles' "Hotel California" written for the Australian anti nuclear movement many years ago: (the point being, all one has to do is become familiar with a tune and its lyrics and then write something with different words but with a similar structure. Or whatever the technicals terms are. (Now widely read Jim come up anything original except in terms of structure, phrasing, timing, whatever it is that makes a lyric and hand it to a musician who would, naturally, write an original piece of music for it) (My example is merely the full kit. And the Eagles song is so well known any idiot would know where I got the structure form) Get my point? (My lyrics make sense in Australia, maybe not in the USA so much) :

Test Site Maralinga
(with apologies to the Eagles “Hotel California”)

On a dark desert clay pan, hot wind in their hair,

Burnt smell of nuclides rising up through the air.

Up ahead in the distance they saw a hammering light;

Their heads grew dizzy with luminous dust,

Hot wind seared the night.

.

There he stood in the doorway;

They heard the bugler’s call

They were thinking to themselves

“This once was a heaven, but now it’s a Hell”

Then he lit up a slide show and told them some lies,

There were voices down the corridor,

They thought they heard them say…

.

Welcome to the test site Maralinga

Such an empty place (No more tribal space)

Plenty of room at the test site Maralinga

Any time of year, we explode it here.

.

His mind is “dose rate” afflicted, a proxy Soviet fear.

His media boys speak what he wants us to hear:

Few speak of the bombing, the rolling black cloud.

Some bombed to remember, some bombed to find out.

.

So l called up the Captain

“Please bring the Vitamin C”

He said “We’ve ignored Linus Pauling since 1963”

And still those voices radio from far away,

Fallout by midnight in Auckland is high

But we still heard them say..

.

Welcome to the test site Maralinga

Such an empty place (of bodies one trace).

They are living it up at the test site Maralinga,

What a nice surprise, the witnesses died.

.

Dose counts hit the ceiling

Test tissue is packed in dry ice.

And he said “You are all just prisoners here until the next device”.

.

And in ASIO’s chambers,

They counted up the wreaths.

They tied them up with Secrecy Tape,

Governments still feed the Beast.

.

Last thing I remember,

I was crying for the past.

I had to get a message back

To people who still had hearts.

“Relax,” said the Army censor,

“We are programmed to deceive.

You can mouth off any time you like,

But you’ll never be believed.”

.

II

The things that God gets blamed for

Belong at humanity’s door.

And those who help conceal the Light

Will pay one day I’m sure.
